Are some of the long serving Bethel servants being given marching orders?
by carefullyread indoes any one have any info on the treatment of long serving elderly bethel servants who are retiring or virtually having to retire?
with the closing & selling off of their properties & relocation's, what is happening to their elderly servants who cannot just move away & have lived at some of their jw accommodations for so long?
many of these servants have worked for very little financial rewards & i have heard some have no life savings or superannuation retirements payouts.. shouldn't the society be paying out a redundancy sum to them?

Is My Wife Awakening?
by My Name is of No Consequence inevery now and then, my wife will talk about how things are not making sense within the org.
i usually just dismiss it as her playing mind games with me.
for example, she would ask why there are so many branches being closed or why so many congregations are being merged.

Those are pretty good points. I wonder if I can find where she is getting her info from without setting off alarm bells. Maybe I will just let it play out.

My dad RIP
by ScottyRex inmy dad died 2 weeks ago on sunday.
i will miss him so much.
he was the funniest most greatest man i have ever known.. granted for the first 30 years i wasnt that much keen on him and i don't think he was on me much either.....let me explain.. mum and dad met in 1964, mum was the prettiest girl in the town, mini skirts, raised hair, the daintiest figure, she looked the spit of audrey hepburn at breakfast at tiffanys.

Sorry ScottyRex.
My dad died a year and a half ago. Aside from my grandfather, he was the greatest person I ever knew.

“How does she know about this and the other issues you cited?”
I think she is just picking up on it. She overhears conversations at the meetings and in field service. The general mood of the flock is not good right now and it is easy to notice.

We might be on to something.
Yesterday, she started talking about how she can’t stand some of the witnesses. She even took shots at some of the elders and how they are able to get away with almost everything. Several years ago, we got some grief (indirectly) for allowing our son to participate in school clubs and sports. There was even a local needs part about it. Now there are elders who are doing the same thing with their children.
I just told her that certain people can do whatever they want and not have to worry about negative consequences. This happens everywhere. These things are CLEARLY on her mind, but I’m taking it slow. At this point, I’m just glad to be having a positive conversation with her.

@ sparrowdown:
It’s the strangest thing. Sometimes she'll talk about the very things that are wrong with the org (SHE can get borderline apostate sometimes). Other times, she doesn’t want to hear it. That’s why I’m taking the common sense approach. If she continues to talk about things that are clearly on her mind, then I will push it just a bit. -

Great comments. She is very intelligent, but when you're trapped within the org, intelligence doesn't really matter.

It was so refreshing for us to have a conversation like that and her not get upset.

Every now and then, my wife will talk about how things are not making sense within the org. I usually just dismiss it as her playing mind games with me. For example, she would ask why there are so many branches being closed or why so many congregations are being merged. I would just smile and tell her that growth is virtually non-existent in many parts of the world and that there is no need for so many branches and congregations. I usually just leave it at that, a vanilla and non-apostate response.
Yesterday was different. I came home from work and almost immediately, she started talking about how former Bethelites are coming back disgruntled and how pioneers are dismayed because no one is helping them within the congregation. I explained that there isn’t a need for so many Bethelites now because of technology and the internet. You don’t need hundreds of people running printing presses anymore. (Note how I avoided an apostate response. I just used simple reasoning.)
She also said that many witnesses are upset about the various mergers and dissolutions of circuits and congregations and are having a hard time adjusting. (This is the point where I tested the waters a bit with her.) I asked her how can the org say that there is so much growth when circuits and congregations are being merged and dissolved? When was the last time a new kingdom hall was built within a 50 mile radius of our home? I told her that I would have much more respect for the org if they were just straight with the witnesses and said that we are doing this to save resources. Nope. The org treats the witnesses like they are ignorant and don’t have access to information.
She wasn’t done. She talked about the child abuse issues and the “two witness rule”. My head was spinning! I told her that they are not going to change that rule because they would set themselves up for even more lawsuits, in my opinion.
We talked for several more minutes and ended with us hugging (something that we hardly ever do). As I walked up the stairs I said jokingly, “let me know if they ask you to get on a bus to Jonestown, I mean Warwick!” She responded (perhaps jokingly), “you’re an apostate!”
I guess I have some more work to do!
